This is from back in 2005 when I went to America with Team Modus Operandi to compete in Wolfenstein at Quakecon. You can see the team setting up and then playing a match (YouTube will highlight where we are.) The reporters only asked to interview one of us.. Claire! but she declined (too modest.)

We finished 5th in the world, and it is still the only time I’ve left Australia to date. Back then I didn’t have my license and had never showed any interest in traveling.. so my mother was somewhat freaked out when I called her one day and said “I’m going to Texas in a month.”

The return trip was the first time I realized that the only good thing about leaving Melbourne is remembering how much I love it when I get back. Man, I’m so gay for this city..

Had a conversation with my dad last week, and he pointed out that I’m now in space. Apparently the earths TV signals go travel into space for an indeterminate distance.. so, there you go. Dman in Space! who woulda thunk it.

The only Reception I was getting on my 3 E160G modem was more akin to that at a funeral home for the vigil I was holding over my monitor waiting for my progress bar to.. well.. progress.

Despite getting 2-3 bars it was dog slow and constantly timing out on simple pages.. forget Facebook or Gmail, remember timeouts and 14.4k modem speeds. It’s the future for fucks sake, someone put that in a memo and send it to Three, but don’t send it via e-mail on their mobile network.. otherwise it’ll take 20 fucking minutes.

I must be at the nexus point of shitty reception in the inner north-east of Melbourne as my 3 key gets dismal speeds in a room close to a window and the outside world (apparently it does exist.)

15 minutes in a queue due to a 3 store having 2 people on staff on a busy Saturday afternoon and $30 later I’m feeling the power of the internet again, and by “Power” I mean 56k modem speeds and less timeouts.

I know I could have gotten an aerial super cheap and probably better from China via eBay but its the convenience vs need vs time thing.. that’s how they get ya. Fuckers.

You win this round Hutchison 3..

After a few weeks on Twitter, the one good thing I’ve found is @KevinFuckinRudd. It’s one of those “fake celebrity” accounts that updates periodically and it’s the only one that’s consistently made me “LOL!” – an example:

I highly recommend that you check out all of the Tweets, starting from the beginning (you’ll have to load the page and then hit “more” at the bottom a few times.) Some are just OK, some are godam hilarious.

The only other real use I’ve had out of the service is thanks to the Twitter Facebook App which allows me to just update my Twitter status/post a microblog, which then updates my Facebook status for people to comment on. It’s also given me a very cheap way to keep my blog updated, thanks to TwitterTools for WordPress, all of my Tweets get chonicled on my blog once a week, automatically!

If only I could bring the same level of automation to my real social life… maybe if I had a dictaphone with a series of common responses and a pair of glasses that has open eyes on them *ponders
